  3. Now here's another speed reading drill--
  4. the EYE MOVEMENT EXERCISE.  This one is
  5. designed to train your eyes to move
  6. quickly across a line of print.  Try to
  7. take in the whole phrase at a glance.
  8. The speed will be set a little faster 
  9. (10% faster, actually) than your present
  10. reading rate.

  14. Most of us/ find ourselves
  15. occasionally wanting/ to be
  16. something different/ from what we are.
  17. Secretaries want/ to be photographers.
  18. Photographers want/ to be airline pilots.
  19. Airline pilots want/ to be professors.
  20. And professors dream/ of being
  21. great Olympic heroes./ Dreams generally help
  22. give us a goal/ to strive for
  23. and keep us/ from falling
  24. into a rut./ They make us excel
  25. by spurring/ our ambitions.

  27. But dreams/ can hurt us, too---
  28. when we begin/ to covet
  29. those abilities/ which we lack.
  30. This kind/ of envy
  31. causes unhappiness/ and discontent
  32. because jealous people/ often overlook
  33. their own strengths/ while they begrudge
  34. those of others./ So keep your dreams
  35. in check/ by reminding yourself
  36. of your own/ strong points
  37. and making the most/ of them.
  38. And the next time/ you find yourself

  40. yearning to be/ what you aren't,
  41. remember the story/ of the shoemaker
  42. who joined the throngs/ of people
  43. welcoming home/ a conquering monarch.
  44. People threw flowers/ in the hero's path
  45. and cheered themselves hoarse./    But the shoemaker
  46. stood silent./ "Why aren't
  47. you cheering?"/ someone demanded.
  48. "You're gazing on/ the greatest man
  49. of our times,"/ a bystander confirmed.
  50. "Oh, him,"/ the shoemaker replied.

  89. after awakening./ Stand with your hands

  92. palms facing upward./ Now, begin to laugh.
  93. Let your laughter/ feed off itself
  94. and spread/ throughout your body.
  95. Keep laughing/ for a few minutes.
  96. When you feel comfortable,/ stop laughing.
